One apprenticeship. One incredible opportunity. Could you be the next success story at Ego Hairdressing?
Every year, hundreds of young people leave school knowing one thing for certain – they want a career that allows them to be creative, work with people and make a genuine difference to someone’s confidence.
Hairdressing offers all of that, but not every apprenticeship is the same.
At Ego Hairdressing, we don’t simply recruit apprentices to fill a vacancy. We invest in people who have the ambition to build a long-term career, and we’re proud of the environment we’ve created to help talented young people achieve exactly that.
As we prepare to recruit our next apprentice for a September start, we’d like to share what makes an apprenticeship at Ego different, what we look for in our future team members and why we’re so passionate about developing the next generation of hair professionals.
It’s about building a career, not just learning a trade
Starting an apprenticeship is one of the biggest decisions many school leavers will make.
It’s the beginning of your working life, and choosing the right salon can have a huge impact on the opportunities available to you in the future.
At Ego, our apprentices don’t spend their days making drinks and sweeping hair while everyone else learns.
Of course, every apprentice starts by learning the foundations of salon life. Keeping a professional salon running smoothly is part of becoming a great hairdresser. But from day one, you’ll also be learning, observing and developing practical skills alongside experienced professionals in a busy, successful salon.
You’ll attend college as part of your Level 2 NVQ while gaining valuable real-world experience every day you’re in the salon. The combination of education and hands-on experience gives you the confidence to develop quickly while understanding what life behind the chair is really like.
Learn from over 100 years of combined experience
One of the biggest advantages of joining Ego Hairdressing is the team around you.
Together, our stylists bring more than 100 years of combined hairdressing experience, covering everything from classic cutting techniques through to the latest colour trends, precision barbering, advanced blonding, consultations, client care and modern styling.
Every member of the team brings something different.
That means our apprentices aren’t learning one way of doing things. They’re exposed to a wide range of techniques, ideas and experiences that help build a solid foundation for a successful career.
You’ll be supported every step of the way by professionals who genuinely enjoy sharing their knowledge and seeing others succeed.
Hard work will always be rewarded
One thing we believe very strongly is that talent alone doesn’t determine success.
Some of the very best hairdressers started with very little experience.
What they all had in common was attitude.
We’re looking for people who are dependable, enthusiastic, professional and prepared to work hard.
Skills can be taught.
Commitment, reliability and the desire to improve every day are qualities that come from within.
Throughout the apprenticeship we’ll be supporting, coaching and monitoring your development, not to put pressure on you, but to help you become the very best version of yourself.
Those who consistently demonstrate commitment, professionalism and ambition will have the opportunity to progress even further.
Introducing our Developing Talent Programme
Passing your Level 2 NVQ isn’t the finish line at Ego Hairdressing.
For us, it’s where the next exciting stage begins.
Our own Developing Talent Programme has been created to help talented stylists continue developing specialist skills much earlier in their careers than is traditionally expected.
Rather than waiting years to explore advanced services, we identify each stylist’s strengths and interests before investing in external education that supports their development.
Depending on the individual, this may include advanced blonding techniques, creative colouring, hair extensions, precision cutting, modern barbering, styling, consultation skills, social media, personal branding and other specialist areas that help build both confidence and a successful long-term career.
Every external training course is fully funded by Ego Hairdressing.
We make that investment because we believe education should never stop.
However, places on the Developing Talent Programme aren’t automatic.
They’re earned through commitment, consistency, professionalism and a genuine desire to keep improving.
We invest heavily in people who demonstrate that they’re ready to make the most of every opportunity.
Real careers. Real progression.
We’re incredibly proud of the people who’ve grown with us.
Katie
Katie joined Ego as a young apprentice with a genuine passion for the industry and a willingness to learn.
Every month she continues to develop in confidence, building her cutting, colouring and client care skills while becoming an increasingly valued member of the team.
Her journey demonstrates exactly what can be achieved through commitment, consistency and a positive attitude.

Eleanor
Eleanor has developed into one of our most sought-after stylists through continuous learning, experience and dedication to her craft.
Today she’s recognised for beautiful blondes, balayage, hair transformations and hair extensions, while continuing to invest in advanced education to refine and expand her skills.
Her success is a great example that learning doesn’t stop once you’re qualified. It’s something that continues throughout your career.

Cece
Cece’s journey perfectly represents everything our apprenticeship pathway is designed to achieve.
Joining Ego as a young apprentice, she embraced every opportunity to learn, develop and challenge herself.
Five years later she’s now one of our Executive Stylists, manages a full column of loyal clients and has become one of the busiest members of the Ego team.
Her progression hasn’t happened by chance.
It’s been built through hard work, commitment, continuous education and a genuine passion for becoming the very best hairdresser she can be.

We’re looking for the right person, not the finished stylist
This year’s recruitment is aimed exclusively at school leavers beginning their career in hairdressing.
You don’t need experience.
You don’t need to know everything about cutting or colouring.
That’s what we’ll teach you.
What we’re really looking for is someone who is:
✓ Passionate about hair and people.
✓ Positive and willing to learn.
✓ Professional and reliable.
✓ Creative and enthusiastic.
✓ Committed to building a long-term career.
✓ Ready to work hard and embrace every opportunity.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
Register Your Interest
We’re now welcoming CVs from school leavers who are interested in joining Ego Hairdressing for a September start.
While we’ll continue to work closely with Burton College throughout our apprenticeship programme, we’re also keen to hear from ambitious school leavers who share our values, work ethic and passion for hairdressing.
There is one apprenticeship position available for this intake.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be reviewing applications as they arrive before inviting shortlisted candidates to attend our Recruitment Evening in August. The date will be confirmed following our meeting with Burton College later this month.
How to Apply
If you’d like to be considered, please send us:
✓ Your CV.
✓ A short covering letter or email introducing yourself.
✓ Tell us why you’d like to build your career at Ego Hairdressing and what excites you most about becoming a hairdresser.
Every application will be reviewed personally, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted with further details about our Recruitment Evening.
